Why Rookwood?

Rookwood's artistic and commercial merits.

Artistic

  • A story full of surprises, emotional depth, and the dramatic pressure of a ticking clock
  • The story shape of a Hero's Journey and The Wizard of Oz
  • Powerful, evocative music from foyer-in to foyer-out
  • Wicked humour, surreal humour, black humour, nuns, witches, murder, and singing trees
  • Actors will have a ball with this material
  • An entertaining and moral story with philosophical and mythical heft
  • A gripping ending of shattering irony and surprising hope.

Commercial

  • A small cast: eleven to thirteen
  • No expensive costuming or special effects
  • No large scene changes - overlays on a fundamental scene will work brilliantly
  • Modest weekly operating costs
  • A geat title - short, memorable, and evocative; a great logline - punchy, original, and intruiging
  • A story with international appeal.
